If you want to adjust the number of recent used shortcut programs that appear at the start menu.

Go to start menu and taskbar properties by right click on the vista start menu icon and select properties.

Under start menu tab click customize....

Enter the number of programs you want in the "Number of recent programs to display"

And click Ok.
